Last May 14, the VALUECARE project (financed by the Horizon 2020 Program and coordinated by the Erasmus Medical Center – The Netherlands) held its 1st Advisory Board meeting, which was moderated by Mona Khalid, as chair of the Advisory Board. It was attended by the remining 7 members of the said Council – Xinye Fang, Charlotte Haggren, Ester Sarquella, Michael Rigby, Yuping Mao, Elena Curtopassi, Viktor Persic – as well as several partners from the VALUECARE consortium, that brings together 17 European partners from 8 countries.
This meeting focused on the discussion and planning of the specific tasks and functions of this Advisory Board, considering the framework, objectives and new timeline of the VALUECARE project, updated after its extension for 6 months due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The VALUECARE digital solution aimed at supporting integrated care for older people, in the social and health areas, both in public and private services and based on a co-creation methodology, will be tested in 2022, through 7 large-scale pilots in Europe: Portugal, Italy, Greece, Spain, Croatia, The Netherlands, Ireland. Caritas Coimbra will be responsible for the implementation of the large-scale pilot in Portugal, dedicated to the risk of social isolation of older people in their homes, aggravated by the contingencies of the pandemic COVID19. This pilot intends to involve more than 200 participants, within the geographical scope of the Diocese of Coimbra, aiming essentially to:
- Consolidate the local and community ecosystem of actors around these older people;
- Ensure that no older person is neglected in terms of support in the social and health areas;
- Explore the potential of VALUECARE technology in improving communication between formal and informal caregivers of older adults (in the social and health sectors).
